Experian Review
Credit services offered by Experian
As one would expect from a credit bureau, one of the main personal services offered by Experian is to do with consumer access to credit file. You can access your credit report and score online – Experian was the first U.S. company to offer customers Internet access to their credit reports. Additionally, Experian paved the way for the online three-bureau credit report.
It is possible to get a free credit report from Experian, rather than having to pay the "reasonable fee" that the company is allowed to charge. First of all, you are entitled to one free credit report each year from each of the three credit bureaus. This means that you get one free report from Experian every year. Additionally, if you have been denied credit, you can get a free credit report. This means that if a lender uses information in your Experian credit file to deny your application, you can get a free credit report from Experian. However, you have to request the report within 60 days of the denial.
Experian also offers credit monitoring services, meant to help you keep track of your credit report. You can, for a monthly or yearly fee, sign up to have Experian watch your credit file closely and alert your to new accounts or red flags.
Other businesses Experian has
Experian goes beyond just credit reporting and consumer credit services. The company has other businesses that include:
- Credit solutions. This business does more than just focus on consumer credit issues. The idea is to help businesses manage their risk. These solutions include help with creating credit scoring models for your business to assess risk, helping with collections efforts and even with B2B information on potential business clients.
- Marketing. Experian is also into marketing. One of the big advantages Experian offers is its large database of consumers that have credit that may qualify them for special offers. - Automotive. For businesses that sell cars, Experian has a variety of services. It is possible for auto dealers and lenders to use the information in your credit report to decide to give you a loan – and even whether or not you get a good interest rate. Additionally, some dealers send out targeted mailings to people who might be eligible buyers. Experian services help in this area.
Note that if you want your name removed from lists that Experian sells to clients, all you have to do is contact the company and request removel. With a variety of businesses related to consumer credit, Experian has done a good job of leveraging its specialty – credit – into multiple streams of success.
