Do I Have a Debt Problem?
A financial crisis usually doesn't occur overnight, but credit and debt problems may build so gradually that you may find yourself drowning before you even knew you were in danger. Do this quick self-test to find out if your financial health is at risk.
- Do you pay only the monthly minimum or occasionally even miss payments on credit cards and charge accounts? Are your cards getting close to, or already at or over your credit limit?
- Are you working a second job or depending on overtime pay just to cover your monthly bills?
- Are you borrowing money regularly from friends and relatives or depending on cash advances to cover basic expenses or pay your credit bills?
- Does it seem impossible for you to save money, or have you wiped out your savings to pay off your debts?
- Are you floating or bouncing checks regularly, hoping that your checks won't clear before payday?
- Can you account for all of the debt you owe? Do you find yourself intentionally hiding credit bills from family members or avoiding adding up the total of the amount of outstanding debt you owe?
- Are you considering consolidating your debts through a high-interest lender, or have you already done so?
- Do you panic when you're faced with unexpected expenses such as car repairs?
Fortunately, your financial situation doesn't need to go from bad to worse. Once you've recognized your debt problems, you can start finding solutions. Timely and effective intervention can help you put an end to financial problems before they become disastrous.
